Deborah has a background in both psychology and education. She has been a counsellor and a primary school teacher. She has also been a VET trainer in welfare courses and for return to work schemes, and a lecturer at the tertiary level in psychology.
As both a trainer and counsellor, she has worked with disadvantaged individuals and families. She has fostered hope and encouraged people to discover and utilize their strengths and capabilities. This has enabled them to consider new possibilities. She has a keen awareness of the importance of building a positive belief in oneself as one part of achieving change.
Her experience of living overseas and has given her an awareness of the challenges of adapting as a family with young children to change, culture and new communities.
Deborah has an enthusiasm for working with children, adolescents and their families, including play therapy for children. She also conducts educational assessments. In addition to providing relationship and family counselling, she offers general individual counselling that empowers people to build positive lives.
