Dr Art Wouters, B.A. (hons.), M.A., Phd., MAPS

Art was born in Holland and spent most of his life in South Africa where he qualified with a Masters Degree. Art completed his Doctoral studies in Psychology while doing empowerment work in the context of political oppression.

Art migrated to Melbourne with his family in 2006. He has practiced and taught psychotherapy with individuals, relationships and groups in both South Africa and Australia for more than twenty years. Art has trained counsellors at Eastern College (previously Tabor), and currently is Dean of Counselling at Stirling Theological College.

Art’s approach is one of working with persons who consult him to help them become better at living full, rich, and meaningful lives. Art is passionate about nurturing wholehearted living, hope, courage and resilience. Art’s clients frequently discover their strengths and become better at harnessing their personal, social, spiritual and other resources that might well have become submerged in and as a result of their problems. He also works with people who experience difficulties associated with grieving, life changes and loss as well as the problems couples and families experience in their relationships.

Art works especially in the following areas:

  • Indigenous & cross-cultural issues
  • Development through life cycle
  • Grief & adjustment to change
  • Adult Anxiety and Trauma
